Want to disciple others in your Community?
When a mom is asked, “How are you?” do you know how she often responds? “Busy!” And that word doesn’t even describe the struggle these days. So when you have a class on apologetics, theology, or discipling kids—though parents long for this—they often don’t see themselves as having the time or the energy to read through a dense text on just how to do that.
As a Christian community we need to implement innovative ways to actively engage parents and kids in discipleship. (And there are tons of organizations out there that are doing this!) Bonus–When you teach the material, you’re going to synthesize and internalize it at a deeper level. Check back here to find ideas for meeting people where they are and actively engaging them in learning about our faith. Curriculum and resources coming soon. For now, here are two ideas you to get you started…
Podcast Apologetics
Apologetics—The reason or defense of our faith.
Podcasts are portable pods of audible information that you can download and play on your smartphone. Basically the modern radio show. Produced in engaging easily digestible ways, Christian organizations are putting out top-notch podcasts on the pressing questions of our day. And I can listen to them while I fold laundry, do dishes, work-out, and run errands.
Book Clubs on apologetics topics? My friends didn’t have the interest or the time. So instead, a group of us started a Podcast Apologetics group. Instead of reading a book and discussing it, we listened to the same podcast then talked about it together at our weekly meeting. (Yes, we still had fancy drinks and cheeses!) We also had: 1) An in-person learning piece 2) Discussion 3) Prayer and 4) A take-away article for deeper learning. Shoot me an email if you are interested in learning more. I have lesson plans for this 6-week series that I am currently tidying up to put out here.
Pop-Up Book Kits
Pop-Up Shop—One time shopping events, often hosted by small local businesses and artists
Ever been to a Pop-Up Shop before? Think boutique, hip, beautiful, seasonal, with all the yummy treats offered on raw edge cutting boards as a side to the latest trending merch.
Why not have a “Pop-Up Shop” to resource your families after church? Have resources arranged in totes by topic that families can check out right there. Make a banner, offer pastel donuts with sprinkles under a ballon arch, and get families to check-out those kits! In twenty minutes after church, you can introduce families to resources that they can take home, use right away and be expanding the biblical literacy in the homes of your families. Kits can be arranged by topics: The Bible and Science, Biblical Archeology, etc. Or compiled by age group. And they don’t have to just have books in them—activities, websites, music, etc. can all be resourced. Downloadable resources coming soon. Join the mailing list to hear about the release.
