The Resurrectionists is run by Janel Davis with oodles of input from moms, aunts, dads, teachers, and grandmas in her community. Janel and her husband left their church of 15 years, when leadership started to change their definition of the authority of scripture. Surprised that congregants no longer “believed in the Apostle Paul’s writings” or felt that scripture “evolves just like we do,” she felt unmoored from her previous Christian community and began the deep dive of hunting for reliable historic Christian resources to help disciple her kids in the faith. Janel started The Resurrectionists out of a passion to share these amazing resources and her experiences, hopefully providing a lifeline to other families that have let go of shifting theological shores.
Janel grew up in the Cascade foothills and spent her summers on the barnacle covered rocks and rainforests of Vancouver Island. She loves biking on trails, baking bread, and eating tasty food with talkative friends. She’s been married for over 16 years to a life-long practical joker and story teller—Who loves her so much, he once shaved her first initial in his chest hair…but that’s another story.
With a Masters in Literacy she was a high school English teacher for 12 precious years. She loved being a part of a team, talking about what it means to be human through the vehicle of literature, and having the opportunity to love every student that walked through her door.
Now her two children keep her busy with their own practical jokes (check your shoes for Legos!), and she works to build a life of faith and wonder for her family. She recently got her certificate in apologetics from Biola University and teaches apologetics in the community. Accused of being a firehose of ideas, she’s a published poet, writes children’s books, does educational consulting and is a sometimes professor at the local university for education courses…though generally she tries to keep the fart jokes just in the children’s books.
The Resurrectionsts are historic Christians who believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ as an event that our faith hinges on. The Resurrection isn’t just a nice Christian idea, a theological thought, or a pretty oil painting found in an old art book. It is a historical fact of a fulfilled prophesy. Not only did Jesus resurrect, but those who follow him, leave behind our old lives and will be resurrected with him. His payment for our sins is our redemption and reunites us with our Creator. The Resurrection is part of God’s grand Rescue plan, and He is the hope we have within us.
